What Are Other People Saying?

A great place to start is asking friends, family, and neighbours. Christchurch, like most of New Zealand is a really small place. They’ll be sure to have an opinion about a tradie who’s done work for them or someone they know.

Another option is to check feedback placed on sites like Facebook, Google+ or BuildersCrack. If a Christchurch tradesperson or heat pump installer has to feedback or too much negative feedback, that could also be a good indicator of what to expect.

It's easy to dismiss one or two bad reviews, you can't please everyone after all. But if you can see a negative pattern, it's probably best you steer clear.

 Are They Endorsed Or Accredited?

If they’re accredited or recommended by third party organisations, that can be a good indicator of the standard of their work. It means an impartial expert has seen what they can do and judged them up to scratch.

If you're not sure whether your Christchurch tradie or heat pump installer is accredited or not, just ask. Most organisations provide ID cards for this very reason.

Websites, social media accounts, business cards, monogrammed uniforms and signwritten vehicles are all measures of credibility. They let you know the tradesperson or heat pump installer you are hiring cares about their business and the quality of their work.

It’s important that you’re comfortable with the person doing work around your home. Most tradies will give a free onsite quote. Take the opportunity to check them out, ask them questions, and make sure they know their stuff.

An onsite inspection should also allow the tradie to give you a detailed quote of what the job should cost and why, so you can make a better comparison between companies.

How far is the heat pump from the power main? What kind of setting is the outdoor unit in? How big is the room you want to heat?
