Where did she spend most of her time? What was she using to heat her bedroom? Why did she want to move the existing heat pump?” After a brief discussion, the woman said she spent most of her time in the living room. She had a small panel heater on a timer, that came on half an hour before she went to bed, and turned off automatically an hour or so after lights out. Once in bed and under the covers, her bedroom wasn’t so cold it was uncomfortable. Her home was well insulated, but the bedrooms simply lacked heating. “She asked me how much I thought shifting her heat pump would cost, and I said ‘nothing,’” says Blair. “She looked surprised, so I told her that she had the most efficient solution already. A small heater on a timer for a room she didn’t use all that often is much more effective than shifting a heat pump that does a great job for the room it’s in.” Heat Pump Installers With A Difference“This lady went on to tell me that she had had three other heat pump installers come out to take a look at her home. They had all looked around the house and given her a quote to shift the heat pump. Not one of them had sat down with her and asked her how she used it,” says Blair.
