Heat Pumps & Insulation - A Winning Combination

Staying Warmer & Drier

At Heat Pumps NOW, we’re always looking for ways to stay warmer, drier, and be more energy efficient in Christchurch. Part of that means keeping and enjoying all the heat our heat pumps produce. So how can we do that?

Insulation - Like A Blanket For Your Home

In many ways, an un-insulated home is like a sieve. Homes can lose around 50% of their heat through lots of tiny holes in the walls and ceiling. Without proper insulation, you’re not enjoying all the heat you pay for. You can crank the heat pump right up, but you’ll just be burning money.

“I founded Heat Pumps NOW to serve our local, Christchurch community, and keep people healthy, dry and comfortable,” says Director Blair Ashdowne. “Heat pumps are fantastic at circulating the air and keeping your home warm and dry in winter, but their job is so much easier when your house has good insulation.”

“That’s not a service we offer, so we are happy to recommend Karlie McCullough and the team at Canterbury Insulation,” says Blair.

“I love my job because I help people feel comfortable in their own home,” says Canterbury Insulation Sales Manager Karlie McCullough.

Canterbury Insulation is your one-stop-shop for insulation solutions around Christchurch. They can help with all underfloor, ceiling, and wall insulation. With electricity prices steadily rising, more people are looking at ways to reduce power costs and become more energy efficient.

“Depending on the age of their home, many don’t feel they have options when it comes to insulation. Canterbury Insulation can retrofit insulation into the ceiling, walls, and under floors in old homes,” says Karlie.

Quick and Easy Heating Solutions

Before, the only option was to take the lining off the walls, put the insulation in and board it all back up – an expensive process that could take two to three different tradies around three or four weeks.

“Now we can insulate an average sized family home in about a day, without removing the wall linings,” says Karlie!

A properly insulated house retains more of the heat you produce. It keeps you warmer and drier, and lowers your energy bill.

“We offer free, no obligations assessments and quotes to find an insulation solution to suit your home and budget,” explains Karlie.

Rental Warrant of Fitness

“Landlords, it’s worth remembering the new Rental Warrant of Fitness comes into effect this year. Canterbury Insulation can give you a free assessment, and a landlord’s discount. We can even issue you a Certificate of Compliance, so you can prove your properties are up to code when the time comes.”

“After fitting homes with insulation, we’re often asked about heating options. We recommend heat pumps for a number of reasons. They are the easiest, most economical and eco-friendly option for customers who want to control their comfort and how much they spend,” says Karlie.

“Fan heaters are cheap to buy but super expensive to run. Gas heaters won’t circulate the air and can cause health issues, while fires have to meet strict Environment Canterbury regulations. Plus, insulated homes can be very warm in summer, and none of those options will keep you air conditioned and cool, says Karlie.”

“There is real value in heat pumps, but it’s important to get the right advice. Sometimes we visit homes where their heat pump is too small to properly heat the room, or they have been oversold on a unit that’s far more powerful than they need.”

“I have confidence in Heat Pumps NOW for expert heating and air conditioning advice that’s in the best interests of the customer,” says Karlie McCullough.

Healthier & Drier Homes

A real highlight of Karlie’s day is when she hears from customers after the insulation is installed.

“There aren’t many jobs where people actively call to tell you how you’ve helped improve their lives. I get lots of feedback to say their power bills are lower, their health has improved, their child’s asthma isn’t as bad. I know I’m making a difference in people’s lives!”

After Amy Spurgeon bought her first home, she called Blair for a quote on a heat pump.

“My parents used to own the house and it was always freezing in winter. I was quite nervous about what heating it might cost, so Blair gave me Karlie McCullough’s number and said I should call Canterbury Insulation,” she says.

“Blair and Karlie came over, made their assessments, and I had their quotes by the end of the day. Not only that, I received a few quotes and both of theirs were the best by far. I’m actually quite surprised it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. I got the most efficient heating option, and now my house is always warm when I get home.”

“My parents are just gobsmacked at how nice and toasty my place is now. It’s warmer than their house! I’m grateful to Heat Pumps NOW and Canterbury Insulation for their awesome work,” says Amy.

Apart from the financial and health benefits, insulation provides some other side effects.

“I had one customer call up and jokingly complain because he slept in and was late to work,” says Karlie. “He told me the morning traffic normally woke him up, but since he had our insulation installed he can’t hear a thing!”
