Heat Pumps NOW congratulates the Highlanders!

If you thought comparing Heat Pumps NOW to the Black Caps after the 2015 Cricket World Cup was a stretch, then get a load of this.

Well done the mighty Otago Highlanders. Big congratulations to our southern cousins on bringing the Super Rugby Cup back to the Mainland! The Highlanders’ victory is due to more than their outstanding play in the Super Rugby final against the Hurricanes on Saturday night, this entire season has been the tale of the underdog.

Perseverance Pays Off

Highlanders scrum-half Aaron Smith knew most people had written them off. “No one believed in us, and I said to the boys ‘Earn the right to be called champions,’ and we did it.”

They most certainly did. After playing on champion form for most of the season, the Hurricanes were the early favourites. Pre-season, the TAB were paying $12 for the Hurricanes to win the title, while the Highlanders were out at $26. Going into the 2015 Super Rugby final the odds against the Highlanders were 2 to 1.

In a post-match interview, Aaron Smith said, “We’ve proved everyone wrong.” While rugby commentator Phil Gifford has gone on to describe the Highlanders’ victory as “the greatest Super Rugby comeback this century.”

So what conclusions can we draw from the Highlanders’ Super Rugby season, and Heat Pumps NOW?

The Highlanders were not a team of champions, rather they are a champion team. The guys like prop Josh Hohneck, lock Alex Ainsley, or no. 8 Nasi Manu were not defeatist about their team’s track record. The players in that victorious team were chosen at the beginning of the season because they were pumped and hungry for victory.

During the 2015 final, the Highlanders’ teamwork out the field was excellent. Their passing was on point, and their tackles always found their man. As a team they nailed the basics and kept hammering them home all the way over the line.

Heat Pumps NOW Still Loyal Cantabrians

Don’t get us wrong. Heat Pumps NOW are fierce Cantabrians, proudly Christchurch owned and operated, and staunch Crusaders supporters. Don’t take this to mean we’ll be switching our allegiance come next Super Rugby season. Not at all. Heat Pumps NOW is just very proud of our underdog neighbours to the south, and want to congratulate them on a hard-fought season and well-played final. Heat Pumps NOW is also very happy to see the Super Rugby Cup return to the South Island.

The Highlanders’ victory was not a fluke. Far from it. Under the trusted leadership of Joseph and Brown we can expect bigger and brighter things from this team, and a spirited Super Rugby title defence next season. Heat Pumps NOW may still be the underdogs in the wider Christchurch heat pumps industry. But, we will continue to hammer home the basics of heat pump installation, keep paying it forward within our Christchurch community, and keep the spirit of the underdog alive.
