​Thank you Christchurch. We could not have done it without you!
When we started in 2014, we had no idea that seven years later we’d be celebrating the milestone of serving 10,000 Cantabrians! It’s massive, and we owe it all to you.

Heat pump giveaway

To celebrate this big milestone, we talked to The Breeze radio station about running a promotion. Thanks to our friends at Mitsubishi Electric, we wanted to give away a 6kW heat pump with built in Wi-Fi plus two years of servicing, for free! All in time for winter. We thought it was a great prize.

For a couple of weeks, The Breeze hosts Hilary, Fitzy and Sue White all said great things about us. Sure, we’d paid for the advertising, but we still got a kick hearing local radio legends rave about us!

​Unfortunately, there were a few issues with the competition. Some people got in touch with us to say they wanted to enter, but couldn’t. The Breeze’s website form said they had already entered. We let the tech people at The Breeze know what was happening, and they were able to fix the issue. Apologies to everyone who wanted to enter the draw, but couldn’t.

Competition issues

​We’re really sorry for what happened next.

In the terms and conditions of the competition, you know, the stuff you agree to so you can put your name in the draw, it said the winner had to be in Christchurch. After all, Heat Pumps NOW is in Christchurch. We install heat pumps in Christchurch. It wouldn’t make sense for us to leave Christchurch to install a heat pump in a different city.

Unfortunately, the person at The Breeze responsible for randomly selecting our winner did not check that the name they’d drawn met the terms and conditions of the competition. Hilary and Fitzy called a woman in Timaru, and live on air, told her she’d won a heat pump.

The Breeze passed on the woman’s contact details to us. We called her to arrange a time to install the heat pump, and she gave us an address in Timaru. That was the first we knew of the mistake.

Of course, we called the team at The Breeze and asked them to explain what had happened. They admitted they’d made a mistake. They said they would call the woman in Timaru and explain their mistake to her, and offer her a replacement prize.

Honestly, we feel for this woman. She thought she was getting a brand new heat pump in time for winter, and through no fault of her own, it was taken away from her. Sadly, the prize draw and checking the eligibility of each entry was out of our control. We’d like to thank the Breeze for taking ownership of their mistakes and for offering to make the situation right with this woman in Timaru.

​The Breeze then went back to their list of names and gave us Karen Rule! Karen lives in Christchurch and we’re stoked to install her brand new Mitsubishi Electric AP50 6kW heat pump just in time for winter. Better still, one of our friendly heat pump technicians will pop by each year for the next two years, to service and clean that heat pump, making sure it’s all running as it should.
