Spring in Christchurch can be extreme. This year has seen gorgeous sunny days followed by torrential rain, and even snow to some parts of Canterbury. When the weather is so unpredictable, it’s a good idea to have a responsive, economical and efficient solutions for your home. What would that look like? Cost-Effective HeatingAlex Watson lives in the Christchurch suburb of Richmond. He wanted a cost-effective solution to get an even heat around his home. “We've got quite a large house with four bedrooms. It had an old boiler system that runs on gas and it was costing us a phenomenal amount of money to keep it on in the mornings and evenings, and not really heat the whole house properly,” says Alex “For us the obvious solution was heat pumps, but because it's a big house, and the way it's laid out, to have an effective system we would have potentially needed four or five heat pumps. That didn't really feel like the right solution.” “We did a little bit of research and ended up giving the guys at Heat Pumps NOW a call. They came down and saw us, had a look at the house and straight away suggested the idea of a ducted system. I wasn't 100 percent sure as to what they meant, so they talked me through it, and it soon became quite clear that this was the obvious solution to what we needed,” Alex says. Whole Home Ducted SystemsA ducted system is a whole home heating solution. We installed a large central heat pump in the ceiling cavity of Alex's home with ducts that lead into each room. Alex’s ducted system spreads an even temperature around his whole home for a fraction of the running costs of his old gas system. “The best thing about that is we can keep the house open, we don't have to close any doors, and we can run it consistently,” Alex says. Ducted System Wi-Fi Control“During the winter we get a nice, even heat and we can adjust it up or down at the touch of a button. We've got a central controller in the hallway there, but it's also on our phones. It means I can turn the heat on if it's a bit colder, or turn it up so that by the time we get home from work the house is nice and warm, it's fantastic. It's actually surprisingly cheap to run as well.”
“We also put it in at the end of February, so we had the benefit, which you don't really think about when getting a heat pump of having the cooling. People would say 'Oh my god it was so hot last night, I couldn't sleep,' we were nice and cool,” says Alex. “It was such a good solution for us. I'd recommend it 100 percent.” Coming into summer, are you looking for ways to escape the Christchurch heat? A quiet, cost-effective air conditioning solution to help you sleep at night?
