It’s sad that in New Zealand’s consumer culture, too often it’s easier to throw away and buy brand new than it is to have something fixed. We think that’s a shame, which is why Heat Pumps NOW has a dedicated repair technician in Christchurch to fix your heat pumps and help them last longer. With that in mind, before you give us a call and tell us your heat pump needs fixing, here are a few things to look for. My Heat Pump Isn’t Heating We get this a lot, and it can be quite a simple fix. Have a look at your remote. Press “Mode” until you see “Heat” or a picture of a sun. Believe it or not, the most common reason in Christchurch why your heat pump isn’t heating is because it’s on cooling… Have a quick look at your heat pump’s setting and you might be able to fix that one yourself. If it’s on “Heat” setting and it’s still not working, give us a call. My Heat Pump Won’t Turn On Also known as, ‘I’m pressing buttons but my heat pump isn’t doing what I want it to.’ There can be another simple repair here. Change the batteries in your remote. If you find you’re pushing those buttons EXTRA HARD to try and change the temperature or setting on your heat pump, new batteries might be the answer. Quick tip. To save any personal settings you may have saved, like your timer, change the batteries out your heat pump remote one at a time. Taking out both batteries at the same time can sometimes cause a reset, meaning you’ll need to enter in any timers or personalised settings again. My Heat Pump’s Lights Are Flashing Are the lights on, but no one is home? No hot or cold air coming out? Flashing lights on a heat pump are normally connected to an error code. Over the phone, tell us the make and model of your heat pump, and any pattern to the way the lights are flashing. For example, is it a steady blinking on and off, or are there five flashes before a pause and another five? This kind of information can help us diagnose the issue before we arrive. My Heat Pump Is Leaking This is a serious issue, and not one we expect you to fix by yourself. The good news is once we have a look inside your indoor heat pump unit, the issue is usually easy to diagnose and repair. When you call us and tell us if your heat pump is leaking tell us whether your heat pump is installed on an interior wall, or on a wall that leads directly outside. 9 times out of 10, if your heat pump is installed on an interior wall, it needs a condensate pump to push the water through the pipework until it makes it outside. It’s normally the condensate pump that is faulty and needs replacing. If your heat pump is installed on an exterior wall, in what we call a back-to-back installation, there is usually a blockage in the gravity drain. Clearing the blockage will repair the leak and allow the water to drain outside as normal. Repair Your Heat Pump If you’ve got an issue with your heat pump in Christchurch and wait it repaired, we are here to help. If you can, try and find the model number and serial number. You’ll find it on your user manual, or somewhere on the side of your indoor unit. Having your heat pump’s model and serial number handy when you call us is a big help in helping us figure out what’s gone wrong.
